Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] launched today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and for the first time the entire Dark Seeker Saga runs natively on current hardware instead of streaming through the cloud on Switch. Buried inside Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, one of the ten games packed into the bundle, is a fight that has outlasted every console generation since 2007: Sephiroth, an optional superboss who gives no experience, can only be fought once per save file, and still humbles players who walk in without a plan. Here is exactly how to find him, what to bring, and how to survive long enough to collect the reward.
What's actually in today's launch
The collection bundles Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX (Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Birth by Sleep Final Mix, plus the HD cutscene versions of 358/2 Days and Re:coded), Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III with the Re Mind DLC. Switch 2 gets native builds instead of the old cloud-streamed ports, which is the headline change for that platform. Each platform ships with its own bonus Keyblade for early buyers, and players who already own digital copies on PS4, Xbox One or Switch Cloud are eligible for a discounted upgrade.
The Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] features KH 1.5+2.5, 2.8 and III + Re Mind (DLC)! Launching October 8 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC.

Why Sephiroth is worth the detour
Sephiroth was added to the original Kingdom Hearts II as Final Mix exclusive content, and it carries over unchanged in this collection. He deals heavy damage, punishes button-mashing, and locks you out of a rematch unless you keep a second save before the fight. The payoff is Fenrir, the second-strongest Keyblade in the game behind Ultima Weapon, plus a permanent Drive Gauge increase and the One-Winged Angel trophy. None of that is required to finish the story, which is exactly why so many players skip past him on a first run and then come back once they know what they are walking into.
How to unlock the fight
- Progress the story until you seal the Space Paranoids keyhole in Space Paranoids. This is the trigger that opens the fight; nothing else needs to be done first.
- Return to Hollow Bastion, which by this point in the story has been restored and renamed Radiant Garden.
- Head past Crystal Fissure into the Dark Depths, the furthest accessible section of the area. Sephiroth stands waiting there; walking up to him starts the battle immediately, so only approach when you are ready.
Gearing up before you walk in
There is no level requirement, but under-leveled runs are brutal. Most players who clear him comfortably are well past level 60, with abilities and gear built around surviving one bad exchange rather than racing the clock.
- Keyblade: Ultima Weapon for its all-around stats, or Circle of Life if you need the MP regeneration more than raw damage.
- Armor: Ribbon, plus whatever Defense Boost accessories you have farmed from synthesis.
- Defensive abilities: Second Chance and Once More, which together stop any single combo from reducing you to zero HP. Add Leaf Bracer so you can heal without being interrupted.
- Mobility: High Jump, Aerial Dodge and Glide at their highest levels, all of which you will need to dodge his aerial combos and ranged spells.
- Items: a full row of Elixirs or Hi-Potions mapped to shortcuts, with Curaga and Reflega kept just as accessible.

Surviving his attack patterns
Sephiroth opens almost every encounter with Swift Strike, a fast dash attack that Guard or Counterguard reliably stops, so get a block ready the instant the fight starts. His Cut Combo and Aerial Cut Combo both warp him directly to your position; block the first hit and use Aerial Recovery if he catches you airborne. At range he leans on Firaga Wall, Shadow Flare and Meteor, all of which Reflega or a well-timed Aerial Dodge will clear. The attack to respect most is Heartless Angel, which strips your HP down to 1 and your MP to 0 in one move. Either interrupt him before the attack lands or go in with Curaga and Leaf Bracer ready to stabilize immediately after. He gets faster and more aggressive once his HP drops below 70 percent, and again below 30 percent, so keep your healing items topped up rather than saving them for a finishing push that may not come in time.
Claiming Fenrir
Beating Sephiroth does not hand you the Keyblade on the spot. After the fight, head to the Marketplace in Radiant Garden and talk to Cloud, then walk back to the Dark Depths to actually pick up Fenrir. It is easy to miss this step and assume the reward did not register. Once you have it, Sephiroth himself will not reappear on that save, so treat the whole sequence as a one-time event worth documenting if you stream or record your run.
