Gears of War: E-Day Chapter 7 Walkthrough: No Gear Left Behind and the Seeder Boss
Bravo Squad tracks Charlie Squad into Allfathers Plaza, fights to the Seeder at the Octus Tribunal steps, and follows Captain Grey out — every step, collectible and boss tactic along the way.

Chapter 7 of the Gears of War: E-Day campaign, "No Gear Left Behind," picks up right after Hold the Line and sends Bravo Squad underground before dropping them into the ruins of Allfathers Plaza to find out what happened to Charlie Squad. It's the third chapter of Act 2, and as of October 2026 it's one of the toughest single fights in the campaign's opening stretch: a Seeder that doesn't move, doesn't flinch to body shots, and will chew through a mag or two if you don't know where to aim. Here's the route, the collectibles worth grabbing on the way, and how to put the Seeder down without burning your whole loadout.
Getting to Allfathers Plaza
If you're picking the campaign back up from Chapter 6's fight to hold Octus Way, the opening of No Gear Left Behind is a breather before it isn't one. An all-hands order calls every surviving COG unit back to base, but Reyes picks up a garbled signal from Charlie Squad on the way out, and Captain Grey sends Bravo to check it instead of falling back. Charlie's last known position sits due east, and Reyes flags the subway tunnels under the city as the faster route there than the surface streets.
Follow the marked descent into the tunnels and stick to the underground path until it opens out again. The game doesn't let you skip this part by returning to the entrance, so push forward even if the squad chatter makes it sound optional. The tunnel itself is quiet — no Locust down here, just debris and a few lines of dialogue between Dom and Mags about what they might find — so use the walk to top off ammo from any crates you pass, since the plaza above spends it fast.
When the tunnel exit comes into view, Bravo surfaces in Allfathers Plaza, and the state of the place answers the Charlie Squad question before anyone says a word: wrecked vehicles, scattered gear and a Locust commander who executes the last of Charlie's team in a short cutscene the moment you're spotted. There's no prompt to intervene — the cutscene plays out regardless of position — so don't waste time trying to rush the commander before the scene triggers. Once control returns, the plaza opens into a full Locust encounter rather than a scripted ambush.

Clearing the plaza and the collectibles worth a detour
The plaza fight itself is Locust infantry rather than anything scripted, so clear it at whatever pace keeps your squad alive before pushing toward the Octus Tribunal steps on the far side. Five collectibles sit along this stretch, and the last one has a time limit, so grab what you can before you commit to the boss arena:
- COG Tags of Private Sal Harkniss — under the opening overpass, on a body next to a small fire.
- COG Tags of Private Siv Strickland — a few steps further, near the wrecked green van.
- Bloodied Spike — past the Cold Drinks vending machine, through an open gate.
- Ink-Covered Wrench — down the steps along the curved train rails, beside a corpse.
- COG Tags of Lieutenant Jane Hawkins — on the north side of the Octus Tribunal, by a row of white body bags. This one only spawns while you're following Captain Grey after the Seeder fight, so don't worry about missing it on the way in.
There's also a Hard Case near the arena entrance carrying a Concussion Rounds mod for the Gut-Puncher launcher. Skip it for this fight — it staggers the Seeder but does essentially no damage, and you want every grenade doing real work. If you're low on frags after the plaza fight, check the blue-grey COG Supply Cache a few steps before the arena gate, right beside a yellow "CAUTION WATCH YOUR STEP" sign — it restocks grenades and sidearm ammo, and it's the last easy resupply before the Seeder shows up.
The Seeder fight at the Octus Tribunal
The Seeder erupts from the ground at the foot of the tribunal steps in a cloud of dust the moment Bravo clears the plaza gate. It's a stationary target: it doesn't walk, doesn't chase and doesn't burrow away mid-fight, but it spits Nemacysts and lobs shells around the square, so you'll be moving between the concrete barriers and sandbags scattered across the open ground the whole time.
Body shots do almost nothing here. The Seeder only takes real damage on the head and in its open mouth, so the fight comes down to two phases. However you get there — cooking a frag grenade or draining the Gut-Puncher launcher into its skull — the goal is the same: stagger the head until it opens its mouth, then switch to your rifle and dump rounds straight down its throat. Repeat that sequence from cover and it goes down in well under two minutes.
Positioning matters more than DPS in this one. Drop from the elevated platform at the arena's edge as soon as the Seeder is in view, and move laterally between the "MILITARY ZONE" barriers and sandbag lines rather than holding one spot — the Seeder's shells land in clusters around wherever you last stood, so a static firing position gets punished fast. Watch for the Nemacysts it spits out between shell volleys; they're slow and weak individually, but they close distance while you're focused on the head, and a cluster of them up close will chip your health while you're trying to land the finishing burst.

Following Captain Grey to the truck
Once the Seeder is dead you'll get an objective update and a checkpoint, plus an ammo box near the entry point with a fresh 60 rounds and 6 grenades if you need to top off. Captain Grey reports in to Control, and the objective shifts to regrouping with him, then following him up the steps and into the courthouse.
Take the immediate left inside the courthouse entrance for the chapter's final Hard Case, which holds the Fortifying Compound injector mod. Grab Lieutenant Hawkins' COG Tags on the north side of the tribunal if you skipped them earlier, then keep trailing Grey to the truck. Nothing in this stretch is timed, so it's worth the extra minute to sweep the tribunal steps and the courthouse lobby before boarding — once the truck pulls away, the chapter ends and anything left behind stays behind. Climbing aboard triggers the chapter's closing cutscene and the shift into Flyboys, where Bravo moves from street-level fighting to air transport.
If the Seeder catches you in the open
The square has enough cover that staying alive is more about discipline than luck, but it's easy to get pinned if you chase a grenade pickup into open ground. If a shell lands close and knocks you down, don't try to crawl back to the nearest barrier under fire — roll toward whichever cover is closest, even if it's the smaller sandbag line rather than the concrete barrier you started behind. The Seeder can't reposition to cut off a retreat, so any cover breaks its line of sight long enough for a squadmate to revive you or for you to self-heal and get back in.
The one mistake worth flagging specifically: don't stand still trading shots with a Nemacyst at close range while the Seeder is mid-volley. It's a habit left over from fighting Locust infantry, and it gets punished here because the shell damage and the Nemacyst's melee lunge land close together. Break off, put a barrier between you and the tribunal steps, and deal with the Nemacyst once you're out of the Seeder's current firing line.
Quick checklist
- Take the subway tunnels east from the Chapter 6 return route to reach Allfathers Plaza faster than the surface streets.
- Clear the plaza's Locust infantry and grab the four available collectibles before approaching the tribunal steps.
- Skip the Concussion Rounds mod — it has no stopping power on the Seeder.
- Stagger the Seeder's head with grenades, then finish it by firing into its open mouth from cover.
- Follow Captain Grey into the courthouse for the last Hard Case and Lieutenant Hawkins' tags, then board the truck.
