No Such Place Beginner Tips: Loadouts, Supplies and Evac Mistakes to Avoid

A new agent survival guide for No Such Place: build loadouts you can lose, manage hydration and blood sugar, and pick evacuation points before you need them.

No Such Place came out of Steam Early Access on October 13, and it drops you into a top-down extraction shooter where every run against a hostile "dimensional fragment" can end in either a loaded backpack or nothing at all. ChillyRoom and Crit Team built it as an isometric answer to the Tarkov-style genre, and the demo that ran earlier this year carries real lessons into the full release: agents who treat their first few runs like a looting spree instead of a survival exercise don't make it to extraction. Here's what actually matters in your opening hours.

Official demo trailer from developer ChillyRoom.

What You're Actually Doing in a Dimensional Fragment

You're an agent of the U.R.C., the Unknown Research Consortium, sent into unstable pockets of reality to recover intel, artifacts and gear before the anomaly collapses or someone else beats you to it. Each fragment pulls from a set of recurring locations: abandoned military outposts, mist-covered research stations, a forest that never stops burning, and frozen high ground. Every run ends one of two ways. You walk, drive or sprint to one of several marked evacuation points and get pulled out with whatever is in your bag, or you don't, and it's all gone. There's no third option, which is the entire design philosophy in one sentence.

Build a Loadout You Can Afford to Lose

The gunsmith system lets you bolt together receivers, barrels, magazines, scopes and grips from almost anything you scavenge, and the results aren't always stable. Stack too many aggressive modifiers and a weapon can go "corrupted," which the game flags with dark violet markings on the model. A corrupted gun might hit harder than its stats suggest, or it might jam or misfire at the worst possible moment, and you won't know which until you pull the trigger in a fight. That randomness is fun to experiment with later, but not on a weapon you need to survive your next extraction.

Pro tipKeep one reliable, unmodified sidearm in your loadout at all times. When your experimental build jams mid-fight, that backup is the difference between adapting and dying with a half-built rifle in your hands.

Early parts aren't scarce, so there's no reason to hoard them for a "perfect" build that never happens. Test risky combinations on a weapon you can replace, not the one rifle you've been carrying since your second run.

Manage Hydration, Blood Sugar and Satiety From Minute One

Your agent tracks hunger, hydration and blood sugar as separate meters, and all three drain steadily whether you're fighting or just walking the map. Canned food and bottled water restore them at different rates and speeds, so check an item's stats before eating it on the move versus saving it for a safer moment. A Safehouse Cooking Station is one of the first facility upgrades worth building, since it offsets that drain cheaper than buying consumables outright. If you want to go deeper on which facility upgrades matter first and how far weapon customization can be pushed once you're past the basics, there's a separate piece on the gunsmith and safehouse systems worth reading once you've got your first extraction under your belt.

  • Eat and drink before a meter hits zero, not after — penalties stack with other combat stress.
  • Prioritize a Basic Workbench and storage crates before cosmetic Safehouse upgrades.
  • Don't carry more canned food than you'll use in one run; weight limits your loot space more than your supplies.

Know Every Evacuation Point Before You Need One

Each map has multiple marked evacuation points, and the smart play is noting two or three of them the moment you land, not scrambling to find one when your bag is full or a fight goes bad. Calling an extraction starts a countdown, and you're exposed to wildlife, mutated enemies and rival agents for the whole duration — standing still in the open is how a clean run turns into a wipe in the last sixty seconds.

Running with a full squad of up to four agents makes extraction noticeably safer than going solo, since someone can watch the perimeter while the rest of the group waits out the timer. If you're queuing solo, pick an evacuation point near cover rather than the closest one on the map.

Mistakes That Get New Agents Killed

  • Looting past your exit window. A full bag you can't extract with is worth nothing. Set a mental timer and head for evac when it hits zero, not when the map is empty.
  • Fighting every encounter. Rival agents and mercenaries aren't always worth the ammo or the noise. Disengaging is a valid strategy in an extraction shooter, not a failure.
  • Ignoring night behavior. Visibility and enemy aggression both change after dark, and running the same route you used in daylight without adjusting is a common way to get caught out.
  • Skipping faction missions. Optional objectives for the Operations Department and other factions pay out progression rewards that speed up unlocking better Safehouse gear.

No Such Place is still in Early Access, with three maps live at launch and more missions, gear and side content planned over roughly a year of development according to ChillyRoom's own roadmap. The core loop already holds up: scavenge smart, build a loadout you're willing to lose, and respect the clock. For anyone coming from Escape from Tarkov or similar extraction shooters, the biggest adjustment is the top-down camera, not the stakes. Full patch notes and store details are on the official Steam page, and ChillyRoom posts development updates on its YouTube channel and X account. You can see the rest of the studio's catalog, including Soul Knight, on its official site. If you've already got the extraction-shooter habit from somewhere else, our ARC Raiders beginner tips cover a lot of the same early-game instincts.
