Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School: How to Solve the Headmaster's Tower Lock
The Headmaster's Tower lock is the first real puzzle gate in Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School. Here's how to read its four wordplay clues and crack the two-word code.

Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School launched November 5 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Xbox Game Pass day one. Coin Crew Games swapped the room-select menu of the first game for a single open campus you walk between puzzles, and the very first gate you hit is a letter-wheel lock on the stairwell door to the Headmaster's Tower roof. It is not hard once you see the trick, but it is built to waste twenty minutes if you read it literally. Here is how to crack it.
Where the Puzzle Shows Up
The lock sits during the early to-do item "A Surprising Start," right after Headmaster Solange tells you to meet her on the tower roof. The stairwell between the entrance hall and the roof has a door with two four-letter wheel groups, and the plaques posted on the walls around each landing are the only clues you get. Walk every landing before you touch the wheels; it is easy to miss the fourth plaque tucked behind the stairs.

Reading the Four Clues
Each plaque gives you one piece of a two-word, four-letters-each phrase. Written down plainly, they are:
- A line that reads "STarts STrong," with the S and T underlined in both words.
- "The second word has a 'U.' No wait... double that!"
- A note stating the finished phrase contains three A's in total.
- A line pointing out that both words end on the same letter.
None of these work if you take them at face value, which is the point. The game leans on wordplay throughout the campus, and this is the tutorial for that habit.
Solving Each Word
Clue one is the only literal one: the first word starts with the letters ST. Clue two is the actual trick. Say "double U" out loud rather than reading it as a letter count, and it becomes the letter W, meaning the second word contains a W. A four-letter word with a W that also satisfies clue four, ending on the same letter as the first word, is AWAY. That forces the first word to also end in Y and start with ST, which only resolves to STAY. Check it against clue three: STAY holds one A, AWAY holds two, three A's total across the phrase. Every clue lines up.
Entering the Code
Dial STAY on the left wheel group and AWAY on the right, then pull the handle. The door unlocks and the path to the roof opens, where Solange hands you your first real assignment and the campus map starts filling in. If the wheels do not turn, back out and recheck each letter individually; a single wrong wheel on either side will silently fail the lock without telling you which one is off.

Carrying the Habit Into the Rest of the Campus
The Headmaster's Tower lock is a fair preview of how Back 2 School's campus-wide puzzles behave now that there is no room-select menu holding your hand between challenges:
- Treat every posted sign, plaque or chalkboard near a locked door as a clue, not flavor text.
- Keep a running note of letter and number clues collected across the campus; several later locks pull from plaques you will have already walked past once.
- Use the per-stage hint system before giving up on a room. It nudges you through one step at a time instead of handing over the full solution.
- If you are stuck solo, bring in a second player. The campus supports the full campaign in online or split-screen couch co-op, and a second set of eyes on wordplay clues saves real time.
Coin Crew Games also added an optional No-Timer Mode for players who want to work through the campus puzzles without a countdown pressuring every room, alongside the timed default mode the original Escape Academy built its reputation on. Full platform details and pricing are on the game's Epic Games Store page, and Coin Crew Games posts development updates on its own studio site.
