Control Resonant, Remedy Entertainment's sequel to 2019's Control, launched worldwide on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with GeForce Now support live at launch. Mac versions through Steam and the App Store are coming later in 2026. Within hours of launch, Remedy pushed a hotfix that reworks how tough early enemies feel, addressing the loudest complaint in the game's first wave of reviews.

A new protagonist in a warped Manhattan

Control Resonant swaps series lead Jesse Faden for her brother Dylan, previously a supporting character locked away by the Federal Bureau of Control. He emerges into a Manhattan twisted by a new cosmic force Remedy calls resonance, on top of returning threats the Hiss and an invasive organism called the Mold. Jesse is missing, and Dylan spends the campaign hunting for her while learning to control paranatural abilities he didn't ask for. Remedy built the game on its own Northlight engine and co-financed it with Annapurna Pictures, describing it as the studio's most expansive release to date.

How combat and traversal work

Remedy calls Control Resonant an action RPG rather than a straight shooter. Dylan levels up character stats across multiple talent trees, and his signature weapon, the Aberrant, shifts between different forms rather than swapping between separate guns. Fights lean more on melee and paranatural abilities than the original game did. The world isn't fully open, but its zones are large, layered with side activities, and shaped by gravity anomalies that bend streets and buildings along the vertical axis, turning basic traversal into a puzzle and adding new angles to combat encounters.

  • Character stats and multiple talent trees govern Dylan's progression
  • The Aberrant weapon changes form instead of being swapped for new guns
  • Gravity anomalies fold city blocks vertically, affecting both movement and fights
  • Large, explorable zones replace the fully open world some expected

The day-one patch: what changed and why

Remedy shipped hotfix 1.3.3 alongside launch after early feedback flagged two related problems: standard enemies and the Dancer and Deserter bosses were soaking up too many hits, and it took too long to trigger their Falter stun state for an execution. The patch reduces base health and Falter thresholds on most enemies and both named bosses, while raising the caps on Dylan's maximum Aberrant Strength and Ability Strength so his damage scales up faster in the campaign's early hours. Remedy also made ability respec permanently cheaper and rewrote UI text explaining Build Power and Aberrant Strength, mechanics reviewers found confusing at launch.

Pro tipIf combat still feels sluggish after the patch, open Assist Mode in the settings menu rather than lowering the whole difficulty. It lets you tune enemy damage and Falter speed independently, which matches what the hotfix itself is adjusting.

Early reception

Control Resonant opened to solid but not universal scores: 83 on Metacritic for both PC and PS5, 81 on Xbox Series X|S, and an 86 percent recommend rate on OpenCritic. Creative director Mikael Kasurinen described the seven-year development cycle bluntly, saying the time went toward "the complexity of our ambition," not any single feature. That ambition is visible in how different this sequel plays from the original Control, and the fast turnaround on the balance patch suggests Remedy is still actively tuning it post-launch.

Full details on platforms, pricing and the Deluxe Edition are on Control Resonant's official game page and its Steam store listing. Remedy's own posts cover the worldwide launch announcement and Kasurinen's launch-day interview, and background on the game's production and cast is on Wikipedia.
