Call of Duty: Black Ops 7: How to Beat the Warden in Rex Infernus
Rex Infernus closes the Black Ops 7 Zombies story with its toughest fight yet. Here is how to beat the Warden, step by step, with the best loadout to bring.

Rex Infernus is the last round-based Zombies map built for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and the Warden is the fight it was built around. He closes out the entire Black Ops 7 Zombies story, he hits harder than every boss the mode has thrown at squads before him, and as of November 2026 he is still the wall most crews run into on their first few attempts at Rex Infernus' main quest. Here is exactly what the fight demands, in order, along with the loadout and prep that make it winnable.

What to finish before you trigger him
The Warden does not spawn until you have worked through the rest of Rex Infernus' main quest, and skipping any of the prep below is the fastest way to die in the first ten seconds of the real fight. Treyarch's own Season 05 Reloaded announcement frames Rex Infernus as the close of the Black Ops 7 Zombies story, and the quest is built to match: everything before the boss room is there to make sure you arrive over-prepared.
- Open Pack-a-Punch and run at least one weapon through it twice.
- Build the Warden's Blight wonder weapon, a pair of ritual crossbows assembled from parts hidden around the Dravakar ruins, then Pack-a-Punch it.
- Cleanse all four Shadowsmith places of power scattered across the map; this unlocks the path into the Warden's inner sanctum.
- Bank at least 50,000 essence and max out your salvage before you commit, since you cannot leave the boss arena once the fight starts.
The Warden fight, step by step
Once your crew is ready, everyone stands in the blue circles beneath the Pack-a-Punch machine to open the arena. From there the fight runs on a repeating loop:
- Spread out immediately. The Warden closes distance fast, and standing still is how he catches you; use your grapple hook or the Void Claw to break away when he lunges.
- Destroy the floating Dread Skulls orbiting him. They are what keep him moving at full speed, and shooting them down staggers him.
- With the Warden stunned, unload your hardest-hitting weapon into the glowing weak point on his tail. This is the only window where he takes real damage.
- He will periodically go immune and summon Shadow Souls. Kill them quickly, since they drop ammo and armor your squad will need for the next cycle.
- Stingers spawn alongside the Shadow Souls. Shoot them down the moment you see them; leave one alive too long and it fires a red beam that can wipe an unrevived player.
- Repeat the Dread Skull stun and tail damage cycle until his health bar breaks.

Best loadout and perks
This is not a fight to walk into undergunned. Squads who clear it consistently tend to run something close to this setup:
- A fully upgraded automatic primary at triple Pack-a-Punch and legendary rarity, with the Light Mend ammo mod, since the Warden and his adds take extra damage from it.
- Warden's Blight, also at triple Pack-a-Punch, as your burst-damage option during stun windows.
- A backup pistol built up through the Mystery Box or crafting table for when you are reloading mid-cycle.
- Widow's Wine as your perk pick, which slows anything that gets too close, plus a tactical grenade for crowd control when Shadow Souls pile up.
- A Field Upgrade built around crowd control or survivability, saved specifically for the immune phase rather than burned early.
What you get for beating him
Finishing the Warden closes out the Rex Infernus main quest and, with it, the Black Ops 7 Zombies storyline. The reward is the same across every platform: a Bloodthorn Wonder Weapon skin for Warden's Blight, a dedicated Calling Card, and 10,000 XP, confirmed in the official Season 05 patch notes. Players who cleared the quest before Directed Mode arrived also picked up a unique variant of that Calling Card, so there is a real difference between finishing early and finishing late.
If your squad keeps wiping
Most failed runs come down to the same two mistakes: someone eats a Stinger beam because they were focused on the Warden instead of scanning for adds, or the squad burns its best Field Upgrades and GobbleGums before the fight even starts. Hold your strongest consumables for the boss room specifically, and assign one player to call Stingers and Shadow Souls out loud every cycle rather than assuming everyone sees them.
